'Amazon' Concept Trailer

a word from the director

When looking for ways to fund our film, we were told to make a trailer for it. The funny thing was, we had never been to, nor had any footage of, the Amazon rain forest in or around Peru. So, we used Binghamton New York. If you know anything about Binghamton, you know it looks NOTHING like the Amazon rainforest. But, with some tight shots, a little color correction, and a splash of a few photos here and there, we have an ok trailer for what is to be a damn good film.

Are you using legitimate film?
Or digital video and calling it "film"?

There's two students in Oneonta billed as "film makers" and touted by the local press who are making vitriolic anti-Bush propaganda DVD's (called 'films") premise being that 911 attacks were actually done by the US Government to provide a reason to attack Iraq.

The propaganda piece was shot on digital video tape with a cheap Canon camera, and in no way can be called a 'film".

But film has a ring of authenticity to it, 'student video project' does not.

Are your projects politically motivated? And if so, who's the motivator/funder? Whom are the intended audience? The Al Gore "Current" TV Channel?

What equipment are you using?
How are you editing it?
Are you aware of the condensation issues in electronic equipment used in jungle atmospheres? Here is where you need a good cine-60 16mm camera in jungle blimpie, not video.

Very curious to hear your reply.

I'll be doing an expose on the Oneonta 'film makers' very soon.

Stay tuned, and hopefully you have no political agenda in mind for your productions.

I think it's horrible that a media person would think this has some kind of political agenda. Obviously you have no idea what started this project and where it's coming from. Do some homework first before you start making such horrendous accusatory statements. SOME people do just want to help those in other countries who are not privy to the resources we are in America. Is it "political" to want to help, to help them stay healthy, to help them bring healthier children into the world? Last I knew, that was no crime...

I have to laugh at Al Czervic's attempt to discredit your project by asking if you are shooting on "film" or on "cheap video camera's" I think he needs to be reminded that it is the artist over the tool that is more important to creating a great "film." For the most part "16mm" film is an outdated form of doing cutting edge documentaries. His bias probably comes from his age- move on with the times! Embrace modern technology. Most documentary "films" available today are actually shot on DV and there is no shame in this. It is standard practice in the industry to call these works of art "films" instead of video and the creators of these projects as "filmmakers" instead of "videomakers" There is no "deception" on the part of these filmmakers who are doing a wonderful job at bringing the problems of the people of Peru to light. Kudos to you filmmakers and to Al- work on your misdirected anger.

I wish there was more footage to see, it seems like an amazing trip
